BOATBUILDING USING
TIMBER
Wood
has always been a favourite building material for marine craft large and
small, for the amateur and professional builder. Despite the advent of fiberglass
and steel along with the increasing difficulty of obtaining suitable length
and large end section durable timbers, it is still a favorite with the
amateur. The development of marine plywood, epoxy adhesives and stitch'n'glue
techniques has made boatbuilding by the amateur much easier. In order to
provide guidelines for timber selection Australian Standards publish a
standard AS 1738-1975 Timber for marine craft.
